Useful tips

In general, your RC (Residence Card) expired would not automatically cause the closure of your bank account or mobile phone subscription; however, there are a few points to be awared.


Bank Account:
Banks in Korea do not typically close the accounts automatically when your RC expired. We suggest you to contact Bank side and inform them about your situation so they could guide you on the necessary steps to maintain or close your account, especially if you plan to be away for an extended period and will not return shortly.


Mobile Phone Subscription:
Similar to the bank account, your post-paid SIM card subscription may not be automatically canceled. What you need to do it to contact CHINGU or the mobile service provider associated with your post-paid plan to discuss your situation. They can provide information on the options which suit you.

 

Communication:
Clearly communicate your plans and timeframe with both the bank and the mobile service provider. They may have specific procedures for handling accounts of individuals who are temporarily out of the country.


Bank Account Inactivity:
Some banks may have policies regarding account inactivity. If your account remains inactive for an extended period, there could be administrative actions, such as charging fees or limiting services. Contact your bank to understand their policies.


Mobile Service Suspension:
Mobile service providers may offer the option to suspend your service temporarily.
This could be useful if you plan to be away for a few months. Discuss this possibility with CHINGU or your service provider.


Keep Documentation:
Ensure that you keep documentation related to your accounts, such as account numbers and customer service contact details. This will be helpful when you communicate with the respective institutions.
It's crucial to take proactive steps to manage your accounts, as leaving them unattended may lead to unintended consequences, such as fees or service interruptions. Contacting the relevant institutions as soon as possible will help you understand your options and prevent any complications.
Remember that policies can vary between banks and service providers, so it's best to contact them directly to get accurate and up-to-date information based on your specific circumstances.
