Before I moved to Korea, I thought I'd fill my suitcase with instant ramen. But after living here, I realized ramen isn't even the most exciting thing in Korean supermarkets.
Here are a few things I always recommend instead:
🥛 1. Korean Milk & Yogurt
Fresh, creamy, and surprisingly affordable. There are so many flavors you probably won't find back home.
🥟 2. Frozen Dumplings
Korean frozen dumplings are seriously underrated. They're easy to cook and taste almost restaurant-quality.
🍑 3. Seasonal Fruits
Depending on the season, you'll find amazing peaches, Shine Muscat grapes, strawberries, or Korean melons. The fruit section is always worth checking out.
🥗 4. Ready-to-Eat Side Dishes
Kimchi is just the beginning. Supermarkets sell dozens of prepared side dishes like marinated vegetables, fish cakes, lotus root, and seasoned tofu, making it easy to enjoy a Korean-style meal at home.
🍱 5. Ready Meals
From bibimbap and kimbap to fried rice and soups, Korean supermarkets offer a huge selection of convenient meals that are perfect when you're short on time.
☕ 6. Instant Coffee Mixes
Even if you're not a coffee lover, Korea's coffee mixes are worth trying. They're smooth, slightly sweet, and a staple in many Korean homes and offices.
Honestly, instant noodles are great—but they're just the tip of the iceberg.
If you're visiting Korea, spend a little extra time exploring the supermarket. You might discover some of your favorite Korean foods there instead of the tourist shops.
