If you’ve spent any time browsing Korea travel guides on Instagram or Pinterest, you have undoubtedly seen it: a perfectly manicured, rolling green hill featuring a single, solitary tree standing proudly against a vast sky.
This is the Lonely Tree (나홀로나무 - Nahollo Namu), located inside Seoul’s massive Olympic Park.
It is one of the most photographed spots in the entire country. But because Olympic Park spans over 1.4 million square meters (originally built to host the 1988 Summer Games), finding this exact tree can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack if you don’t know where to look.
Here is everything you need to know to navigate the park, beat the crowds, and share your stunning shots instantly using Chingu Mobile.

The Story Behind the Tree
The Lonely Tree is an arborvitae tree that sits in the middle of a wide, pristine meadow. Back in the 1980s, when the area was being cleared to build the Olympic facilities, several old houses were demolished. However, city planners decided to preserve this single, beautiful tree because of its unique aesthetic appeal.
Today, it serves as a year-round muse for photographers:
-
Spring & Summer: Surrounded by a vibrant, endless carpet of bright green grass.
-
Autumn: Framed by golden landscapes and cooler, crisp skies.
-
Winter: A dramatic, minimalist contrast standing against pure white snow.
