According to a recent Korean health report, ultrafine dust (PM2.5 and smaller) can be especially harmful to children. It can worsen asthma, allergic rhinitis, and other respiratory conditions, and even affect other organs by entering the bloodstream.
Studies show that high air pollution levels may slow lung development, increase infections, and aggravate skin conditions like eczema in kids. Children with existing lung or heart conditions are at even higher risk.
What parents can do:
-
Avoid outdoor activities on high pollution days
-
Use age-appropriate protective masks when going out
-
Manage indoor air quality with air purifiers
-
Encourage hydration and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables
-
Keep up with flu vaccinations during peak seasons
Protecting children from air pollution needs extra care and attention.
