Korea is currently experiencing an intense heat wave, with daytime temperatures soaring above 35°C (95°F) in many cities, including Seoul, Busan, and Daegu. If you’re traveling here or living in Korea, be sure to take extra precautions!
🌡️ What’s happening?
The country has issued a nationwide heatwave advisory. It’s not just hot—it’s humid too, making it feel even more uncomfortable. The combination of strong sunlight and high humidity can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
🧊 Tips to stay safe:
🔹 Stay indoors during peak heat hours (12–4 PM)
🔹 Wear light, breathable clothing and a wide-brimmed hat
🔹 Always carry water—stay hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty
🔹 Use sunscreen (SPF 50+) and reapply regularly
🔹 Take breaks in air-conditioned places like cafés, subway stations, or shopping malls
🌿 Where to cool down?
-
Public cooling centers (무더위 쉼터) are open in many neighborhoods
-
Visit indoor attractions like museums, aquariums, or shopping centers
-
Water parks and swimming pools are also a great way to beat the heat
🚨 Watch for signs of heatstroke:
Dizziness, nausea, headache, dry skin, or rapid heartbeat—if you or someone else shows these signs, seek shade or air-con immediately and get medical help if needed.
☀️ Korea’s summer can be fun, but safety comes first. Take care of yourself and each other out there!
