A Walk Around Suwon Hwaseong 🏯

Hey everyone!
I wanted to share a bit about Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, one of the coolest historical places I’ve visited in Korea.
Suwon Hwaseong is a large fortress in Suwon city, built in the late 1700s during the Joseon Dynasty by King Jeongjo. He built it to honor his father and also to create a strong, modern defense structure. What’s interesting is that the fortress mixes traditional Korean design with some early scientific and architectural ideas of that time.
The wall is about 5–6 km long, so you can actually walk along it and see different gates, watchtowers, and command posts. The views are really nice, especially near sunset. Some sections show the city on one side and nature on the other, which feels like past and present together.
It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it’s well protected and maintained. On weekends, there are sometimes cultural performances and traditional activities nearby.
If you like history, walking tours, or photography, I definitely recommend visiting. It’s not too far from Seoul and makes a great day trip!
Has anyone else been there? 😊
