When people think of South Korea, they often think of K-pop, delicious food, and modern cities. However, one of the most exciting attractions in the country is Everland, the largest theme park in South Korea.

Located in Yongin, just outside Seoul, Everland offers a perfect destination for families, friends, and tourists from around the world. The park is divided into several themed zones, each with its own unique atmosphere and attractions. Visitors can enjoy thrilling roller coasters, beautiful gardens, exciting animal exhibits, and entertaining performances throughout the day.

One of the most famous rides in Everland is the T-Express, a wooden roller coaster known for its incredible speed and steep drops. It is a must-try attraction for thrill-seekers. For those who prefer a more relaxing experience, the park's beautiful flower gardens provide a peaceful place to take photos and enjoy nature.

Another highlight of Everland is the Safari World and Lost Valley.

KT Membership

KT Membership

I recently signed up for a KT plan with a one-year contract through Chingu Mobile. Turns out, if you're on a KT plan, you get access to KT Membership in Korea, which gives you tons of discounts and coupons. What an awesom deal!
There are several tiers depending on how much your plan costs. I'm on the basic level, but even that comes with sooo many promotions.
First of all, there are discounts at all movie theaters. You know how expensive movie tickets are in Korea... Well, with this membership you can get up to 50% off! The best part is that you can book tickets directly in the app without having to register on each theater chain's website separately.
Second, there are loads of coupons for cafes and restaurants. This month, for example, I ordered pizza at 50% off!! And I also used a coupon at Baskin Robbins 😍
I also noticed in the app that there's a marketplace where you can order clothes, appliances, home interior items, etc. Looks like there are great deals there too, but I haven't ordered anything from it yet. There are so many discounts and promotions that I haven't figured it all out yet, so much more to discove

Yangjae Flower Market (양재꽃시장)

If you are craving a massive dose of nature without actually leaving Seoul, you need to head south. Tucked away in Seocho-gu, Yangjae Flower Market (양재꽃시장) is South Korea’s largest wholesale and retail flower paradise. It is not just a market; it is an absolute sensory overload of fresh eucalyptus, bright blooms, and towering tropical palms.

Whether you are a seasoned plant parent trying to expand your urban jungle or a traveler looking for a vibrant afternoon stroll, navigating this massive complex requires a little bit of strategy.

How to Get There

Getting to Yangjae Flower Market is incredibly simple via Seoul's subway system:

Subway Line: Take the Shinbundang Line (the red line) down to Maeheon Citizens' Forest Station (formerly Yangjae Citizen's Forest).

Exit: Walk out of Exit 4.

The Walk: Keep walking straight for about 200 meters, and you will spot the sprawling market gate on your right-hand side.

Understanding the Market Layout

Unlike a typical retail flower shop, Yangjae is a massive campus divided into distinct, specialized zones. If you do not know where you are going, you might end up wandering through row after row of office orchids when you actually wanted a fresh bundle of tulips.

Here is how the complex is split up:

1. The Wholesale Fresh Flower Building (Building #3)

This is the holy grail for fresh-cut flowers. Stepping inside feels like walking into a massive, heavily scented refrigerator. This is where local florists come to buy in bulk, but everyday retail buyers are absolutely welcome to purchase by the bundle (dan).

2. The Potted Flower Greenhouses (Buildings #4 & #5)

These are two massive, parallel greenhouses that feel like indoor botanical gardens. Here, you will find everything from miniature succulents and rare tropical monsteras to indoor trees, herbs, and air-purifying plants.

3. The Underground Bouquet Shops (Building #2)

If you aren't looking to arrange flowers yourself and just need a flawlessly crafted bouquet or basket for an event, head straight downstairs here. Dozens of artisan florists work side-by-side creating custom arrangements.

4. Gardening Supplies & Materials

Need premium soil, specialized ceramic pottery, fertilizer, or glass terrariums? The dedicated materials sector has rows of vendors selling everything required to keep your new green friends alive.

Operating Hours & Best Times to Visit

Because Yangjae operates primarily as a wholesale auction center, the operating hours differ wildly depending on which building you want to explore.

Market Section

Operating Hours

Best Time to Visit

Fresh Cut Flowers (Wholesale)

12:00 AM (Midnight) – 1:00 PM

(Closed Sundays)

Late morning (10:00 AM - 11:30 AM) for fewer crowds, or Saturday at noon for clearance deals.

Potted Plant Greenhouses

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

(Daily)

Weekday afternoons for a calm, uncrowded greenhouse stroll.

Underground Bouquet Shops

7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

(Daily)

Anytime during daylight hours.

Pro Tip for Sunday Visitors: While the fresh-cut wholesale building is completely closed on Sundays, the giant greenhouses take turns opening on alternating shifts—meaning at least one massive greenhouse is always open every single Sunday!

Insider Tips for Your Visit

Bring Cash or Prepare for Bank Transfer: While many vendors now accept international credit cards, you will have much better leverage for a small discount if you pay in cash or offer a quick domestic bank transfer (gyejwa-iche).

Catch the Saturday Clearance: Because the fresh flower market closes down on Sundays, vendors are highly motivated to clear out their remaining inventory on Saturday mornings. Arrive around 11:30 AM on a Saturday to snag bundles of roses or lilies for incredibly cheap prices.

Know Your Transit Limits: If you fall in love with a massive snake plant or a fiddle-leaf fig, keep in mind that riding the Seoul subway with a five-foot tree during peak hours can be an absolute nightmare. Stick to medium or small pots if you are traveling via transit, or prepare to hail a taxi.

To see a live walkthrough of the latest plants and seasonal arrivals directly on the market floor, check out this Yangjae Flower Market Plant Tour and New Arrivals.

If you can, book your tickets online a day in advance, or aim for a weekday morning ride.

Chinatown in Incheon

Chinatown in Incheon is a vibrant cultural hub you absolutely cannot miss if you want to experience a unique blend of history, stunning street aesthetics, and world-class food. Located at the very end of Seoul Subway Line 1, South Korea’s only official Chinatown transports you out of the modern capital and straight into a neighborhood defined by brilliant red storefronts, dramatic traditional gateways, and over 140 years of history.

If you are planning a day trip, here are the absolute must-see highlights that make this historic district worth the journey.

The Ultimate Chinatown Checklist

Rather than wandering aimlessly up the neighborhood's steep hills, keep an eye out for these distinct landmarks:

The Four Paeru Gates: These massive, ornate Chinese entryways flank the boundaries of the district. The grandest one stands directly across from Incheon Station Exit 1, serving as the perfect starting point for photos.

Cheongil Jogyeji Stairway: This stone staircase historically divided the Chinese and Japanese concessions in the late 19th century. If you look closely, you will notice Chinese-style lanterns and architecture on the left side, and distinctly Japanese styles on the right.

Samgukji Mural Street: A peaceful 150-meter stretch of road featuring 160 tile murals that depict legendary tales from the classic epic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village: Right next door to Chinatown, this whimsical neighborhood features brightly painted streets, over-the-top installations, and interactive murals based on classic global fables.

What to Eat: A Culinary Pilgrimage

You cannot visit Incheon Chinatown without arriving on an empty stomach. This district is internationally famous as the birthplace of Jajangmyeon (Korean black bean noodles)—a dish originally created by Chinese immigrants in the early 1900s to feed local dockworkers.

Top Foodie Highlights:

The Jajangmyeon Museum: Housed in the original location of Gonghwachun—the restaurant that first commercialized the dish—this quick, budget-friendly museum features retro dioramas tracking the history of the noodle.

White Jajangmyeon: For a unique spin on the classic, try this lighter, MSG-free variation found at local favorites like Daechang Banjeom. It swaps the heavy black bean paste for a savory minced meat and soybean base.

Hwa-deok Mandu: These savory dumplings are stuck directly onto the inside walls of a massive, 200-degree clay jar oven, resulting in an incredibly crispy, smoky pastry shell filled with juicy meat or sweet red bean.

Whether you are a history buff, an avid photographer, or a passionate foodie, Incheon Chinatown offers a sensory-rich escape right on the edge of the Seoul metropolitan area.

South Korea’s Presidential Election: How Does It Work?

I’ve noticed a lot of international students and foreigners in Korea asking about the recent presidential election, so I thought I’d share a simple overview.

South Korea elects its president through a direct popular vote. Citizens who are 18 years old or older can vote, and the candidate with the most votes wins the election. Unlike some countries, there is no electoral college system.

One interesting feature of Korean elections is early voting. Voters can cast their ballots a few days before Election Day at designated polling stations, making it more convenient for people who may be traveling or working on election day.

Election campaigns are also quite visible. During campaign season, it's common to see banners, campaign vehicles with loudspeakers, and volunteers greeting people near subway stations and busy streets.

The presidential term lasts five years, and presidents cannot serve consecutive terms. This system was designed to prevent excessive concentration of political power.

Whether you're interested in politics or just curious about life in Korea, election season offers a unique glimpse into Korean society and how citizens participate in democracy.

Have you ever experienced an election season while living abroad? I'd love to hear how it compares to your home country.

Sweet & Sour Sauce Culture Shock 🤯

I’m genuinely shocked 😂

In my 26 years of life, sweet and sour sauce has always been designed for dipping nuggets, so it’s always come in those small tubs. Seeing it packaged like ketchup was a real surprise for me!

New SIM plans for frequent tourists

There's an inconvenient rule in Korea - tourist phone numbers that aren't linked to an ARC get automatically blocked when you leave the country. I visit Korea often without a visa, and it was really frustrating to have to get a new number and SIM card every single time.

But now Chingu Mobile has a new plan for situations just like mine! This plan doesn't get blocked when you leave Korea! So you can come and go and keep using the same SIM card and number. The main thing, as they told me at the office, is to top it up within a month of the expiration date.

There are 4 new plans: two more affordable ones with unlimited internet at 1 Mbps and unlimited calls to Korean numbers, and two plans with unlimited internet at 3 Mbps. I was told that 3 Mbps is a good speed for YouTube and Instagram, so I went with the 39,600 won/month plan. It includes 15 GB of high-speed internet, unlimited internet at 3 Mbps, a Korean phone number, and 100 minutes of calls per month.

The internet speed was a pleasant surprise - everything loads without any issues! And most importantly, you get a Korean

phone number that you can use for restaurant reservations or to create a KakaoTalk account.

I've recently started playing Pokémon GO again, and I honestly didn't expect it to be this fun after all these years!

What makes Pokémon GO special is how it combines the real world with gaming. Whether you're taking a walk, shopping, or traveling, you can encounter different Pokémon along the way. It really feels like you're on your own Pokémon adventure as a Trainer.

One of my favorite things about the game is how it encourages people to get outside and stay active. Hatching Eggs, completing research tasks, and participating in raids often motivate me to walk more than I normally would. It's a great way to combine exercise with entertainment.

The game also keeps things exciting with regular events, such as Community Days, Raid Days, seasonal events, and special celebrations. These events give players opportunities to catch rare Pokémon, hunt for Shinies, and earn exclusive rewards. There's always something new to look forward to.

Another aspect I enjoy is the community. Whether it's trading Pokémon, teaming up for legendary raids, or sharing exciting catches, Pokémon GO brings players together. Traveling to different cities or countries can also be rewarding, as you may discover regional Pokémon and collect unique postcards from PokéStops around the world.

If you grew up watching Pokémon or playing the Pokémon games, I highly recommend giving Pokémon GO a try. It's more than just a mobile game—it's a fun way to bring a childhood dream into the real world.

Anyone else preparing for Korea’s annual “Love Bug” season? 😭

I keep seeing posts saying the love bugs (러브버그) are expected to come back around late June again this year, especially around Seoul.

I haven’t experienced it personally yet, but apparently it gets really bad near mountains, parks, the Han River, and areas with lots of lights at night.
People say they stick to black clothes, fly into your face while hiking, and basically turn summer walks into survival mode 💀

What makes it funnier is that they’re called “love bugs” because they usually fly around attached to each other lol.

From what I read:

they don’t bite

they’re harmless to humans

but the sheer number of them is what freaks everyone out

I’m honestly curious if this year will be as bad as last summer.
For people living in Seoul — when does it usually peak? And are there certain areas that are noticeably worse than others?

Also… are hikes in late June basically impossible because of them? 😅
